Non Vertical Equilibrium

This project arose from a 4-day workshop guided by Naomi Filmer and Daniel Ramos. It happened in the framework of the tenth edition of the Salón Crisol in the Museum of Modern Art of Bogotá, and with the collaboration of the Universidad de los Andes.

The torso is commonly related to the idea of verticality since the spine is the one that gives us the ability to stay upright. However, this "verticality" is rarely perfect, since the torso finds balance by accommodating itself in multiple non-vertical ways. The previous idea helps to understand different “deformities” of our body in a more daily and normalized way, since we all compensate small or large asymmetries with our position.

This project explores and enhances the torso's ability to find balance through curved positions. The fact that these six pieces are not tied in any way to the body and that contain water increases the risk of imbalance, generating a dialogue in which the exact position to be taken is communicated in each particular balance.

This project was carried out in conjunction with Daniela Gómez
